Preserved green areas help protect natural resources and improve quality of life in communities

The green areas preserved by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ in municipalities in the Central region of Minas Gerais have contributed to environmental conservation and to the quality of life of local communities. Together, the areas located in Congonhas, Belo ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, Jeceaba, and Itabirito total more than 8,000 hectares of preserved land, including legal reserves, environmental compensation areas, and Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs).

In Itabirito alone, there are more than 5,600 hectares of preserved areas ¡ª the equivalent of more than 5,000 soccer fields. In Congonhas, the total reaches 1,455 hectares. Belo ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has 593 preserved hectares, and Jeceaba accounts for 434 hectares of protected areas.

These spaces help conserve springs, streams, and native vegetation, while also providing habitat for various species of fauna and flora. In practice, preservation helps protect the soil, improve water quality, and support climate balance in the region.

According to Jorge Falrene, manager of physical management of non-operational properties at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, preserving these areas is a way of caring for both the land and the people. "These areas help conserve water, prevent soil erosion, and provide shelter for fauna and flora. In practice, this means better water quality, environmental balance, and improved conditions for surrounding communities," he highlights.

Beyond environmental preservation, the areas also contribute to recreational activities, social interaction, and well-being, strengthening the relationship between communities and the environment and encouraging care for future generations.
