Located in the northern area of Camburi Beach in Vit¨®ria, Esp¨ªrito Santo, Coastal Park serves as a center for environmental education and scientific research dedicated to the conservation of coastal ecosystems, including mangroves, coastal vegetation (restinga), and marine environments.
Covering an area of 17,000 square meters, the park was designed to provide an educational and sensory experience, promoting direct contact with nature and raising awareness about the importance of environmental preservation.

Environmental Restoration in the Northern Region of Camburi Beach

Coastal Park is part of the environmental compensation and restoration initiatives established under the Camburi Environmental Commitment Agreement (TCA Camburi), signed by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, the Federal and State Public Prosecutor¡¯s Offices, the Municipality of Vit¨®ria, and the State Institute for Environment and Water Resources (IEMA), with oversight from local residents¡¯ associations in the northern Camburi coastline area.

Since the agreement was signed, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has implemented a series of projects focused on environmental restoration and regional transformation, contributing to the recovery of coastal ecosystems and improvements to the urban environment.

1966

Inauguration of the Port of Tubar?o

The founding milestone of what would become the Tubar?o Unit as we know it today: an industrial complex spanning 14 km?, with railway, port, and pelletizing operations.

1969 e 1973

Inauguration of the First Two Pelletizing Plants

An industrial process that transforms ultra-fine ore into pellets, using water at certain stages of this beneficiation process.

1969 a 1984

Discharge of Ore Effluents at Camburi Beach

Occasional discharges of ore effluents occurred at Camburi Beach, resulting from overflow in the storage tanks of the Pelletizing Plants.

At the time the original plants were designed, the environmental legislation in force did not require certain environmental control measures.

1984

End of Effluent Discharge at Camburi Beach

With advances in technology and environmental legislation, effluent began to be recirculated and reused in the industrial process.

Today, more than 75% of the effluents generated at the Tubar?o Unit are reused. The remainder is treated.

In the 1980s, Tubar?o's first Environmental Master Plan was implemented, with actions focused on environmental conservation. 

2017

Signing of the Environmental Commitment Agreement for Camburi Beach (TCA)

Recovery studies for the northern area of Camburi Beach were initiated in 2002, in response to environmental conditions that were instrumental in providing the technical basis for the Environmental Commitment Agreement years later.

In 2017, an agreement was signed in which ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ committed to carrying out a series of environmental recovery and compensation actions in the northern area of Camburi Beach.

The TCA was signed by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, the Federal and State Public Prosecutor's Office, the State Environmental Institute, and the Municipality of Vit¨®ria, and was accompanied by residents' associations from the Camburi waterfront.

2018

Beach and Sea Monitoring

Studies showed that the mass of ore sediments on the seabed is stable and does not affect other areas of Vit¨®ria Bay.

The presence of colonizing organisms ¡ª such as corals, sponges, and starfish ¡ª indicates that natural recovery of the submerged area has taken place.

The study also showed that any initiative to remove the solidified material would cause greater impact on the marine environment than leaving it in its current state.

All studies were validated by the institutions that were part of the TCA. 

2019

Atl?ntica Park

One of the TCA deliverables, this leisure space has become a gathering point for residents of the area.

Covering 19,000 m?, it features skate and BMX tracks, a children's playground, a lookout point, a soccer field, and a pet-friendly area.

It was built by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and is now managed by the Municipality of Vit¨®ria. 

2022

Restinga Vegetation Recovery

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ restored the restinga vegetation along the entire length of Camburi Beach. Invasive exotic species were removed, and protected areas were fenced off.

Around 25,000 native seedlings were planted across an area of 140,000 m? ¡ª the equivalent of 14 soccer fields.

2022

Beach Sand Restoration (Emerged Shoreline)

On the dry stretch of beach (not covered by the sea) in the northern area of Camburi Beach, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ removed the material composed of sand and iron ore and replaced it with clean sand and clay.

Fulfilling a TCA commitment, this action was carried out across an area of 43,000 m? ¡ª the equivalent of approximately four soccer fields.

Community Engagement

During the planning and implementation of the proposed projects, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ carried out several active listening and stakeholder engagement initiatives. 

Approximately 70,000 people, primarily residents living near Camburi Beach, participated in social mobilization activities, including environmental awareness and informational campaigns promoted by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and partner institutions throughout the TCA period. 

2024

Coastal Park

Camburi Beach can now be experienced from a new perspective. Covering approximately 17,000 m?, the Coastal Park, built and managed by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, is dedicated to biodiversity conservation, coastal ecosystem restoration, research, and environmental education. 

The park¡¯s usage guidelines were established through community engagement and listening initiatives.

Plan your visit: general rules

To ensure environmental preservation, safety, and a positive experience for all visitors, it is important to follow the Coastal Park's rules and regulations.
  • Bringing domestic animals into the park, except in cases provided for under Federal Law No. 11,126 of June 27, 2005 (guide dogs) 
  • Consuming or bringing alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs into the park 
  • Smoking anywhere within the park 
  • Feeding, harming, or disturbing wildlife 
  • Accessing the park with motorcycles or bicycles, electric or otherwise 
  • Using balls, shuttlecocks, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, drones, kites, or similar equipment 
  • Entering the park wearing swimwear 
  • Using fire of any kind, including barbecues, bonfires, or candles
During visits to the Guaiamuns Trail, visitors must:
  • Remain on the designated trail at all times 
  • Not collect leaves, flowers, fruits, or branches; all natural elements must remain undisturbed 
  • Ensure that minors are accompanied by a responsible adult 
  • Refrain from smoking 
  • Not use fire of any kind, including barbecues, bonfires, or candles 
  • Help keep the park clean by properly disposing of their own waste 
  • Not set up tents or any structures that characterize camping or the hosting of events along the trail
