Investing in the Nation¡¯s Future: Strengthening Higher Education Collaboration in Sorowako

Sorowako, December 4, 2025 ¡ª Building a superior generation of Indonesians cannot wait. Amid rapid industrialization and economic transformation, the quality of human resources (HR) is the cornerstone for realizing the President¡¯s Asta Cita vision¡ªparticularly Goal 1 (Excellent Indonesian People), Goal 6 (Sustainable Economic Transformation), and Goal 7 (Strengthened Governance).

Aligned with this national agenda, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½), part of the MIND ID Group, continues to reinforce the role of industry in advancing higher education in Sorowako through its support for Politeknik Sorowako (Poliwako).

Bernardus Irmanto, President Director & CEO of PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia, emphasized that the transformation of ATS into Politeknik Sorowako marks a pivotal moment¡ªnot only for PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ but for the growing industrial ecosystem in East Luwu.

¡°This transformation must open broader collaboration opportunities¡ªnot just with PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, but also with other industries emerging in East Luwu. We need talent equipped with skills, technology, and an innovative mindset to compete globally,¡± said Bernardus.

Poliwako is envisioned as a leading vocational hub producing industry-ready graduates, supporting downstream development, and strengthening regional economic value chains.

The initiative also received full support from East Luwu Regent Irwan Bachri Syam during the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Lecture Building and the Official Naming of Politeknik Sorowako. The government views higher education as an urgent need. Data shows that more than 10,000 East Luwu students currently pursue education outside the region. Poliwako¡¯s presence offers equitable access to quality higher education.

Regent Irwan shared a significant update: ¡°We have received positive feedback from the Ministry of Forestry to allocate approximately 200 hectares as an integrated education zone. This area will host a campus, boarding school, MSME center, and rehabilitation facilities. It reflects our commitment to sustainable human capital development in East Luwu.¡±

This initiative aligns with Asta Cita to create new economic growth centers driven by people and innovation.
Firman Fauzih, Chairman of the Sorowako Education Foundation, explained that Poliwako evolved from a long journey¡ªstarting as PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s Training Center, then ATS, and now a full-fledged polytechnic.

¡°We aim to make a greater contribution to PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and the East Luwu community. Poliwako must become an institution that not only produces skilled workers but also future change-makers,¡± said Firman.

Poliwako¡¯s transformation has been officially approved through a decree from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, according to Director Harjuma.

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s Strategic Support for Poliwako Includes:

Industry-Based Curriculum & Training

Developing curricula aligned with mining operations, nickel downstreaming, technology, safety, and green mining practices.

Vocational Short-Term Training (VST)

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, East Luwu Government, and Poliwako signed an MoU to strengthen short-term vocational training for local youth, ensuring job readiness and competitiveness.

Internship and Link-and-Match Programs

Providing hands-on experience at PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s operational units, enabling graduates to learn world-class technology, maintenance, and operations.

Research Ecosystem for Energy & Reclamation

Collaborative research on renewable energy, metallurgy, reclamation, and environmental conservation to empower students to contribute to future technologies.

These efforts reflect PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s commitment to Asta Cita and its long-term dedication to sustainable development in its operational areas.

The event concluded with the official inauguration of Politeknik Sorowako¡¯s nameplate by the East Luwu Regent and PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s President Director, followed by the signing of the VST MoU¡ªsymbolizing a strong industry¨Cgovernment¨Ceducation partnership. Higher education development in Sorowako is not merely an infrastructure project; it is a long-term investment in building a generation that is superior, independent, adaptive, and globally competitive.

Through a collaborative approach, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and the East Luwu Government are committed to making Poliwako the leading vocational education center in Eastern Indonesia¡ªensuring local talent is not only ready for the future but actively shaping it.
