Advancing Clean Water and Resilient Cities, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and Indonesia¡¯s Ministry of Environment Remove Over 56 Tons of Waste from Cipinang River

Jakarta, October 21, 2025 ¡ª Rivers are more than just waterways¡ªthey are vital ecosystems and lifelines for urban communities. In a strong show of collaboration and environmental stewardship, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk, part of the Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID) Group, partnered with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) to launch the 2025 Cipinang River Clean-Up Movement. This national initiative aims to improve water quality, raise public awareness, and strengthen community engagement across East Jakarta and Depok.

Led by Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, the movement has mobilized hundreds of volunteers and stakeholders. By mid-October, 225 community members had helped remove over 56 tons of waste from the river and its banks. The initiative also installed 19 trash booms and CCTV units at key locations to intercept and monitor waste flow. Data from Jakarta¡¯s Environmental Agency revealed that in September alone, 302 tons of waste were recorded in the river¡ªhighlighting the urgency of collective action.

¡°Rivers are the lifeblood of our cities. The formation of the Cipinang River Community marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to clean water, flood prevention, and a new urban culture,¡± said Minister Hanif.

KLHK emphasized that effective river management relies not only on technology but also on public discipline and active participation. Dr. Rasio ¡°Roy¡± Ridho Sani, Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control, stressed the importance of integrity and enforcement. ¡°Environmental discipline must start with individuals and institutions. This movement shows that collaboration between government, communities, and businesses can drive real change,¡± he said.

For PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, this initiative reflects more than corporate responsibility¡ªit embodies the company¡¯s sustainability philosophy, which recognizes water as a shared resource essential to life. As a nickel mining company powered entirely by renewable hydroelectric energy in South Sulawesi, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ understands that clean water is fundamental to sustainable industry, healthy communities, and thriving ecosystems.

Through this collaboration, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is extending its best practices in water management and conservation from its operational areas to urban environments, where waste and pollution require cross-sector solutions.

¡°Water sustains not only our operations but also our communities. This movement aligns with ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s belief that every drop of water must be protected and returned cleaner. We¡¯re proud to support KLHK¡¯s efforts to build a culture of river stewardship,¡± said Budiawansyah, Director & Chief of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk.

Activities continue this week in Depok and East Jakarta, including river clean-ups, community training, and the launch of the Peduli Lingkungan app¡ªdesigned to enhance community-based environmental monitoring. The initiative is expected to serve as a scalable model for sustainable public¨Cprivate¨Ccommunity partnerships across Indonesia.

On October 19, Minister Hanif convened an evaluation meeting in Depok with local government officials, parliament representatives, and river community leaders. The forum reaffirmed the importance of sustaining the movement and building community capacity to protect the ecological function of the Cipinang River. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ reiterated its commitment to supporting environmental restoration and water literacy through collaborative, science-based, and behavior-driven approaches.

The Cipinang River Movement has become a symbol of hope and collaboration¡ªdemonstrating that protecting rivers means protecting life. Every sack of waste removed, every volunteer engaged, and every drop of clean water restored reflects the power of collective action.

Pria Utama, Corporate Secretary of MIND ID, echoed this sentiment: ¡°Rivers are not just water flows¡ªthey are sources of life and energy that support our national mining operations. Downstreaming is not only about economic value; it¡¯s about ensuring industrial progress goes hand-in-hand with environmental preservation. With a spirit of collaboration, we will continue to protect rivers as vital energy for building the future of civilization.¡±
