Sustainability Milestones for Kolaka: Two Strategic Achievements by PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia on the Regency¡¯s 66th Anniversary

Kolaka, 28 February 2026 ¨C The 66th anniversary of Kolaka Regency marks an important moment to reflect on the region¡¯s accelerating development and growing competitiveness. On this special occasion, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½), part of Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID), through the Indonesia Growth Project (IGP) Pomalaa, announced two strategic milestones: the revitalization of the Mekongga Central Market and the inauguration of a new integrated Nursery connected to the Kolaka Botanical Garden.

These two achievements are more than infrastructure projects. They symbolize meaningful collaboration between the private sector and local government to strengthen the local economy while advancing environmental sustainability.

Strengthening Local Economic Transformation

The Mekongga Central Market serves as the commercial heart of Kolaka Regency, supplying at least six traditional markets in the region. As a critical distribution hub and price-setting center for daily commodities, it plays a pivotal role in driving local economic activity.

The 7.55?hectare revitalization project¡ªcomprising 38 functional blocks¡ªis designed to create a more modern, organized, hygienic, and environmentally friendly market environment. With an estimated investment of approximately IDR 200 billion, the project is expected to be completed within three years.

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia President Director Bernardus Irmanto emphasized that this initiative represents more than a physical upgrade. It reflects a long?term vision to generate meaningful and sustainable economic impact.

¡°We are not only building a market but creating an empowered economic ecosystem. That is why the design includes not just market facilities but also a waste?processing unit. This is our shared aspiration with the Regent of Kolaka,¡± Bernardus stated during the inauguration ceremony.

He added that the project reflects the company¡¯s commitment to fostering cleaner, healthier public spaces while preserving the traditional character that defines the community.

Kolaka Regent H. Amri highlighted the strategic value of the revitalization project for improving commercial infrastructure.

¡°We expect this to enhance market facilities, reorganize stalls for better order and safety, ensure comfort for both traders and consumers, and drive more competitive local economic growth,¡± he said.

This transformation takes place amid Kolaka¡¯s rising investment climate. In 2025, the regency recorded approximately IDR 19.36 trillion in investments¡ªsurpassing the regional target¡ªwith the basic metals and mining sectors contributing significantly.

The Indonesia Growth Project (IGP) Pomalaa is part of a national strategic investment valued at around IDR 67.5 trillion (¡Ö USD 4.29 billion) for integrated nickel mining and processing development. The project supports Indonesia¡¯s downstream industrialization agenda while reinforcing Southeast Sulawesi¡¯s position as an emerging economic hub.

Since entering the construction phase, the project has:

  • Created more than 2,500 jobs,
  • Stimulated the local economy through supply chains and MSMEs,
  • Increased contributions to regional revenue.

These commitments align with PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s long-term Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

Environmental Commitment and Long-Term Education

Beyond economic development, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ also inaugurated a 5-hectare Nursery in Tanggetada District, integrated with the 59-hectare Kolaka Botanical Garden. The facility can produce up to 1 million seedlings per year, including fast-growing species, endemic flora of Southeast Sulawesi, fruit trees, and ornamental plants.

The Nursery is not merely an operational support facility¡ªit represents the company¡¯s concrete commitment to land reclamation and post-mining rehabilitation.

¡°This Nursery reflects our dedication to maintaining balance between industrial growth and environmental conservation. We want to ensure that every step of development leaves long-term benefits for future generations,¡± Bernardus said.

The facility is also designed as a center for environmental education and biodiversity conservation, accessible to students and the broader public.

In his remarks, the Regent expressed deep appreciation for PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s contribution:

¡°On behalf of the Kolaka Regency Government, I express my utmost appreciation to PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia for this tangible commitment. I believe many hands and hearts contributed to making this Nursery a reality.¡±

A Shared Commitment to a Sustainable Future for Kolaka

The inauguration of the Nursery and the revitalization of Mekongga Central Market during Kolaka Regency¡¯s 66th anniversary serves as a powerful symbol of synergy between local government and the private sector in building a more advanced, inclusive, and sustainable Kolaka.

Through the Indonesia Growth Project Pomalaa, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia reinforces that industrial investment is not solely about increasing production capacity¡ªit is also about creating meaningful social and environmental value for surrounding communities.

With a spirit of collaboration and a strong commitment to sustainability, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ continues to position itself as a responsible development partner for Kolaka and Southeast Sulawesi.
