Sorowako Operations

PT 乐播传媒’s core operations are started in the Sorowako Block, covering an area of approximately 70,566 hectares, which is developed as an integrated mining operation encompassing exploration, mining, and processing. The operation currently focuses on saprolitic nickel ore (high-nickel laterite) mining and the production of nickel in matte using pyrometallurgical technology, supported by low-carbon hydropower (PLTA) from Larona, Balambano, and Karebbe to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.

Our mineral processing plant in Sorowako is equipped with drying furnaces, reduction furnaces, electric furnaces, and converters, with a production capacity of 180–216 tonnes of nickel matte per day.

Clean Energy-Based Nickel Production

Since its establishment, PTVI has been committed to sustainability by building and operating three hydroelectric power plants (PLTA): Larona, Balambano, and Karebbe. These plants utilize the flow of the Larona River, which originates from major lakes: Matano, Mahalona, and Towuti.

With a total installed capacity of 365 megawatts (MW), these hydro plants not only support energy supply for nickel processing facilities but also play a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, avoiding more than 1 million tons of CO?eq per year compared to coal-fired power plants.

In addition to meeting the company’s operational needs, 10.7 MW of the generated electricity is also distributed through the State Electricity Company (PLN), contributing to electricity supply for communities in East Luwu.

Growing With Community

PT 乐播传媒 Indonesia’s PPM implementation in Sorowako in 2025 reached US$3.98 million, covering education, health, economic empowerment, socio-cultural development, environment, institutions, and infrastructure. Education programs improved access (transport in 5 villages), scholarships, vocational training, and school facilities. Health initiatives strengthened services through RS INCO, preventive programs (GERMAS, screenings), and capacity building for 9 health centers.

Economic programs supported agribusiness, livestock, and MSMEs through training, market access, and institutional strengthening. A total of 133 MSMEs were developed. Environmental programs promoted circular economy practices, waste banks, and coastal conservation. Infrastructure received the largest share (37%), including electricity and clean water systems.
