First Cut Marks BB1 Operational Launch: PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Reinforces Sustainability, Collaboration, and Contribution to Advancing Indonesia

Morowali, September 8, 2025 ¡ª As a sustainable nickel company, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½) reaffirms its commitment to supporting the national development agenda outlined in Asta Cita, with a focus on sustainability, green energy transition, and improving community welfare in its operational areas.

As part of this commitment, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is developing Bahodopi Block 1 (BB1) to strengthen its position in supporting the expansion of national nickel production to meet global demand, while upholding sustainability principles. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is collaborating with strategic business partner PT Antareja Mahada Makmur (AMM) for stripping, mining, ore transportation, and infrastructure development activities at BB1.

The First Cut Ceremony held at Pit Myara on Monday (8/9/2025) marked a significant milestone, signaling the commencement of operational activities at Bahodopi Block 1. The event was attended by key stakeholders from Central Sulawesi, Morowali, East Luwu, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia¡¯s President Commissioner F.S. Multhazar, and Director and Chief of Project PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia, Muhammad Asril.

Bahodopi Block 1 is a strategic project expected to have a substantial impact on Indonesia¡¯s economy. It not only contributes to state revenue but also creates employment opportunities and enhances the welfare of surrounding communities.

Although still in the early stages of development, Bahodopi Block 1 has already delivered tangible benefits to the region. To date, hundreds of local workers have been employed in strategic roles. Of the 503 individuals involved in the development of Bahodopi Block 1, 63 percent are local residents from Morowali and East Luwu, each playing a vital role in the project¡¯s success.

Currently, several supporting mining facilities at Bahodopi Block 1 are under construction, including disposal areas, settling ponds, stockpiles, camps, workshops, Mining Hauling Roads (MHR), and power lines, all aimed at ensuring smooth future operations.

In addition, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and its strategic partner PT Antareja Mahada Makmur (AMM) have initiated various community development and empowerment programs. These include collaborations with Morowali¡¯s Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) for workforce supply, vehicle rentals, sacrificial animal donations, and event sponsorships.

In Morowali, partnerships with local entrepreneurs have been established to provide labor, vehicle rentals, and sponsorships for village, sub-district, and anniversary events. Moving forward, PT AMM plans to launch a scholarship program to develop skilled workers in operations and mechanics from vocational school graduates.

From a sustainability perspective, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia¡¯s Director and Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer, Budiawansyah, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in implementing responsible mining practices, both environmentally and socially. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s 57-year commitment in the Sorowako Block will be adapted to all mining activities in the Bahodopi Block.

"We are currently in Bahodopi Block 1, which is part of our strategic plan to support nickel downstreaming. God willing, Bahodopi Block 1 will add value, and the good mining practices we¡¯ve implemented in Sorowako will be applied here as well," said Budiawansyah during the First Cut Ceremony on Monday (8/9/2025).

In the midst of efforts to contribute to the nickel industry, environmental and social aspects are often overlooked. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s consistent commitment to sustainability brings optimism to the region, ensuring environmental preservation and maximizing contributions to regional revenue.

Central Sulawesi Governor, Dr. H. Anwar Hafid, M.Si., views the downstreaming strategy¡ªtransporting nickel ore from Morowali to be processed in Sorowako, East Luwu¡ªas highly beneficial for both provincial and district governments. This includes not only ore from Bahodopi Block 1 but also Blocks 2 and 3.

"This is a new hope for us in Central Sulawesi and Morowali through profit-sharing from nickel matte. Mr. Police Chief, Mr. Military Commander, let¡¯s safeguard this well because PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is our future hope, and our revenue will surely increase through profit-sharing for both Morowali and Central Sulawesi," said the Governor.

Morowali Regent, Iksan Baharudin Abdul Rauf, represented by Expert Staff for Social Welfare Abdul Malik, expressed appreciation for PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s role in Morowali, particularly in various social initiatives.

"We often accompany PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s activities in Morowali, especially in health and education. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s presence greatly supports the Regional Government in jointly fostering village development and improving healthcare facilities," he said.

Meanwhile, East Luwu Regent, Ir. H. Irwan Bachri Syam, ST, IPM, emphasized the importance of synergy between local governments and companies. The development of Bahodopi Block 1 will bring significant benefits, especially in increasing regional revenue through taxes and royalties¡ªnot only for Central Sulawesi Province but also for South Sulawesi Province.

"Why do we support PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½? Because we¡¯ve partnered for 57 years in East Luwu, and during this partnership with the Government and Community, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has made extraordinary contributions, especially by implementing green mining practices. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s operations are exceptional, and we are grateful for its presence. We gain a green environment and revenue from it," said the Regent.

Governor Urges Mining Companies to Emulate PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s Sustainability Commitment

Central Sulawesi Governor, Dr. H. Anwar Hafid, M.Si., commended PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s consistency in operating without neglecting environmental and social aspects, which he believes should serve as a model for other mining companies.

Amid the expansive growth of mining companies in Morowali Regency, commitment to social and environmental aspects is often tested and overlooked. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s presence, with its sustainable and responsible principles, brings a breath of fresh air.

"I thank PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ for consistently protecting the environment. Hopefully, PT AMM, under PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s supervision, will implement proper and responsible mining practices and become a role model," said Anwar Hafid.

The Governor also stressed the importance of actualizing community empowerment programs. He called on companies and all stakeholders¡ªincluding Regents, Sub-district Heads, and Village Heads¡ªto jointly oversee corporate commitments to social and environmental aspects.

"My hope for entrepreneurs, under my leadership, is that Regents, Sub-district Heads, and Village Heads safeguard this properly, especially paying close attention to local community empowerment," he concluded.
