Clean Rivers, Empowered Cities: A Collaborative Effort by Indonesia¡¯s Ministry of Environment, MIND ID, and PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at the Cipinang River Festival

Jakarta, November 1, 2025 ¡ª The movement to restore and empower Indonesia¡¯s rivers continues to gain momentum. On Friday, October 31, 2025, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH), the Provincial Government of Jakarta, and the state-owned mining holding company MIND ID, held a tree-planting event at Dukuh I Reservoir in East Jakarta as part of the Cipinang River Festival 2025.

This initiative is part of the Cipinang River Clean-Up Movement, a pilot project for community-based river management. Led by Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono, the event brought together over 500 participants from diverse backgrounds, including senior officials from KLH, executives from MIND ID, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, and PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk, river care communities, local residents, and business representatives.

¡°This area is being developed into a water tourism destination that will benefit the surrounding community ¡ª a great idea initiated by Mr. Roy. I deeply appreciate the community and all residents who have helped protect this river,¡± said Diaz. ¡°We will remove sediment to improve water flow and enable recreational activities like canoeing. But most importantly, we must prevent waste accumulation from happening again.¡±

He added, ¡°Tree planting is also a vital step. Beyond beautifying the area, trees provide the oxygen we need every day. I encourage this activity to continue as part of expanding green spaces in Jakarta. Protecting rivers means protecting life. Thank you to MIND ID, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, and everyone who contributed to the success of this initiative.¡±

Synergy for River Restoration and Environmental Awareness
Stretching 30.4 kilometers from Depok to East Jakarta, the Cipinang River is currently classified as heavily polluted, with a monthly waste load of 302 tons. Through the Cipinang River Festival, the government aims to raise public awareness about stopping river pollution and strengthen the role of river care communities in maintaining cleanliness and ecological health.

Dr. Rasio ¡°Roy¡± Ridho Sani, Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at KLH, emphasized the importance of discipline and cross-sector collaboration in maintaining water quality. ¡°This movement is a real example of how government, communities, and industry can unite for impactful environmental change,¡± he said.

Pria Utama, Corporate Secretary of MIND ID, stated that the company¡¯s participation reflects its commitment to ecosystem preservation and reinforces the spirit of collaboration for environmental sustainability. ¡°For MIND ID, rivers are not just water flows ¡ª they are sources of life and energy that support both communities and the mining industry. That¡¯s why the MIND ID Group will consistently support efforts to restore and conserve river ecosystems as part of our responsibility to maintain ecological balance,¡± Pria said.

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s involvement in the event aligns with its commitment to sustainable water resource management. As a nickel mining company powered by renewable hydroelectric energy in South Sulawesi, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ views water as a vital resource that must be protected collectively.

¡°Water is the foundation of sustainability. What we¡¯re doing today at the Cipinang River reflects our philosophy that every drop of water must be preserved and returned cleaner,¡± said Bernardus Irmanto, President Director & CEO of PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk. ¡°As part of the MIND ID Group, we believe our environmental responsibility extends beyond our operational areas ¡ª it must reach public and urban spaces where real impact is felt by communities.¡±

Fostering Collaboration and Tangible Action
In addition to tree planting, the Cipinang River Festival 2025 featured river sediment dredging, recognition of river care communities, fish release at Dukuh I Reservoir, and a local small business (UMKM) bazaar.

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, MIND ID, and KLH hope this initiative will serve as a model for public¨Cprivate¨Ccommunity partnerships in sustainable river management, replicable across other regions in Indonesia.

¡°A clean river means sustainable life. Today¡¯s collaboration proves that change can begin with simple actions ¡ª one tree planted, one piece of trash removed, one empowered community,¡± concluded Bernardus Irmanto.
