Tangible Recovery Progress in Towuti: PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Completes Six Oil Spill Response Sites

Towuti, 22 October 2025 ¡ª Sustainable nickel producer PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (¡°PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡±), a member of the Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID) Group, has confirmed significant progress in the post?incident response following the oil pipeline leak in the Towuti area. Of the 11 response sites identified since the first day of the incident on 23 August 2025, six sites have now been fully remediated, with no visible oil residue remaining in water flow areas. Regular monitoring continues across all locations as part of PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s commitment to a measurable, structured, and auditable recovery process.

Notable progress includes Site 2 in Lioka Village, which has required no further cleanup activities since 13 September 2025 after water clarity returned to normal. Similar conditions have been achieved at Site 1 and Site 7. Meanwhile, Sites 3, 8, and 9 have completed cleanup operations and are currently awaiting water and soil quality test results from accredited independent laboratories. All technical data will be published periodically to ensure ongoing transparency for stakeholders.

Community observations support the reported improvements. Aroyos, a resident of Lioka Village who crosses Site 2 (the village connecting bridge) daily, shared: ¡°Yesterday afternoon when I crossed the bridge, I could clearly see that the water was already clear¡ªvery different from the early days of the incident. I¡¯ve also seen many residents using the water again to wash cars, motorcycles, and for daily needs.¡±

From the outset, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ prioritized stopping the oil flow, minimizing impacts on communities and the environment, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

¡°At the start of the incident, our priority was the safety and well?being of communities and environmental protection. We mobilized all available resources to minimize impacts by immediately stopping the oil flow,¡± said Endra Kusuma, Head of External Relations at PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk.

Response actions have been implemented in close coordination with the East Luwu Regency Government, under the leadership of the Regent of East Luwu, and supported by relevant government agencies, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), and community representatives. All field activities were documented, reviewed, and aligned with established oil spill response procedures and occupational safety standards.

Social and Environmental Accountability

On the social front, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡ªtogether with government authorities and community representatives¡ªhas agreed on compensation frameworks and impact?mitigation mechanisms. The current phase involves beneficiary identification and verification, guided by principles of accuracy, fairness, and full documentation, to ensure accountability and prevent duplication.

Environmentally, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is collaborating with academics from several universities to conduct ongoing monitoring of water and soil quality at affected sites. Results from independent, accredited laboratory testing serve as the key basis for decision?making, including the definition of site closure criteria, in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Testing data and technical summaries will be disclosed progressively to support public accountability.

On 19 October 2025, an evaluation meeting led by the Minister of Environment was held in Depok, where PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ presented the latest progress, preliminary test data, and forward work plans for sites still undergoing recovery. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has indicated its readiness to follow up on all regulatory guidance and strengthen cross?agency coordination.

¡°Our commitment and empathy toward communities and the environment remain unchanged¡ªthen and now. We understand the concerns expressed by residents, and this continues to motivate us to strengthen field operations until Towuti has fully recovered,¡± Endra concluded.

Forward?Looking Statement

Statements regarding recovery plans, timelines, and the publication of test results constitute forward?looking statements that depend on scientific verification, site conditions, and regulatory guidance. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is implementing all actions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, safety standards, and transparency principles. Nothing in this release is intended to waive or limit the legal rights or obligations of any party.
