Inclusive Dialogue and Concrete Solutions: PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Reinforces Its Commitment to Towuti¡¯s Recovery

Towuti, 25 September 2025 ¡ª Following the conclusion of the emergency response period for the oil pipeline leak incident on 12 September 2025, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all social and environmental impacts are addressed comprehensively, transparently, and through inclusive dialogue with all stakeholders.

The company¡¯s primary focus is to respond to community concerns with tangible, scientifically accountable actions. To date, more than 284 grievances from residents across six affected villages¡ªLioka, Wawondula, Baruga, Langkea Raya, Matompi, and Timampu¡ª have been formally recorded through the Complaint Desk at the Towuti Sub?District Office, as well as through direct field engagement. More than half of these reports have already been followed up, demonstrating PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s commitment to listening to and responding to community concerns.

During a public hearing with the East Luwu Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ emphasized the importance of a recovery process that is transparent and participatory. Endra Kusuma, Head of External Relations at PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, stressed that community anxiety is valid and must be addressed with care and responsibility:

¡°We are here to listen directly to community aspirations and to ensure that every step we take carefully considers social, environmental, and sustainability aspects. This approach is not only about addressing impacts, but also about rebuilding mutual trust.¡±

In collaboration with the East Luwu Regency Government, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has developed a structured impact classification framework covering rice fields, plantations, fish ponds, poultry, large livestock, fishermen¡¯s livelihoods, and household water wells. Impacts are categorized into low, medium, and high severity levels, ensuring that assistance and recovery measures are proportional to actual field conditions. The process has now entered the verification phase, leading toward the signing of compensation agreements and the disbursement of support.

All response teams continue to operate at full capacity with PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s full support, in close coordination with the East Luwu Government and with the involvement of independent experts, including the Disaster Risk Reduction Centre (DRRC) of the University of Indonesia, led by Professor Fatma Lestari. Over the past three weeks, water, air, and soil samples have been collected through an open and transparent process, with time stamps and GPS coordinates recorded, samples sealed according to established standards, and tested at accredited laboratories.

Test results as of 24 September 2025 indicate Mercury (Hg) levels at 0.0008 mg/L and Hexavalent Chromium (Cr??) at 0.01 mg/L, both well below Class I regulatory thresholds. These findings confirm that water and soil quality in the affected areas remain within safe limits. Professor Fatma commented:

¡°We understand the concerns of the community. That is why all sampling has been conducted in an open, well?documented manner and the results are grounded in science. Should there be any remaining doubts, we are ready to continue supporting the process so that communities can be fully assured that recovery is being carried out responsibly.¡±

Beyond compensation mechanisms, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ continues to implement on?the?ground recovery measures, including the removal of residual oil along riverbanks and ongoing environmental monitoring in collaboration with government authorities and local communities.

This recovery effort is not merely about resolving an isolated incident. It represents an important turning point to strengthen collaboration, rebuild public trust, and safeguard the long?term sustainability of the Towuti ecosystem.
