From Loeha Raya: PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Champions Literacy for Indonesia¡¯s Future Leaders Through Book Donations
Sorowako, October 20, 2025 ¨C In a meaningful step toward cultivating a generation of well-informed, globally competitive youth¡ªthose poised to enter the prime of their professional lives as Indonesia celebrates its centennial of independence in 2045¡ªPT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½), a subsidiary of Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID), has reaffirmed its commitment to education by donating books to children in Loeha Raya, located in the Tanamalia Block.
The donation was formally handed over to the management of the Jendela Dunia (Window to the World) Library in Tokalimbo Village on Monday, October 20, 2025, during a ceremony held at PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s GFS office in Sorowako, East Luwu, South Sulawesi.
The donation package included hundreds of children¡¯s storybooks, encyclopedias, science comics, writing supplies, and study desks. This initiative aligns with Indonesia¡¯s national vision to foster educational advancement and intellectual development across all regions, ensuring that every child has access to quality learning resources.
This effort reflects PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s deep-rooted commitment to enhancing literacy among children in Loeha Raya. Recognizing books as gateways to knowledge and imagination, the company aims to bridge educational gaps caused by geographic isolation and limited infrastructure. In remote areas where transportation can be a barrier, such initiatives become vital in ensuring that children are not left behind in their pursuit of learning.
Mercy Balebu, Senior Project Manager of Tanamalia PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, emphasized that the donation was made possible through the voluntary contributions of PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ employees and contractors. She highlighted the company¡¯s broader mission to uplift communities through education.
¡°Our mission is to improve the quality of life in every area where we operate,¡± Mercy stated. ¡°Through this book donation, we hope to inspire children to dream big and pursue their aspirations. We believe that access to books can ignite curiosity and open doors to endless possibilities.¡±
She further noted that this marks the first book donation in the Tanamalia area, with plans to expand the program to other villages based on community assessments and identified needs.
¡°The digital age presents new challenges for educators,¡± Mercy added. ¡°Children are increasingly drawn to mobile devices rather than books. It¡¯s crucial that we work together to address this shift. We must reintroduce children to the joy of reading¡ªwhether through physical books or digital formats.¡±
Hasni Nusia Sari, a staff member at the Jendela Dunia Library, expressed heartfelt appreciation for PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s support. She recounted her surprise and emotion upon learning about the donation.
¡°I was at a loss as to where else to turn for help in acquiring books that could attract children to the library,¡± Hasni shared. ¡°I¡¯m truly grateful for the company¡¯s support.¡±
She explained that while the village allocates a modest annual budget for book purchases, the limited funds have made it difficult to obtain engaging materials that spark children¡¯s interest in reading.
¡°Thank you so much, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½,¡± Hasni said with gratitude. ¡°I¡¯m thrilled that the company genuinely cares about children¡¯s literacy in our village. With these books¡ªespecially the illustrated storybooks¡ªI¡¯m confident more children will be drawn to the library.¡±
Hasni also shared that the library has become a regular stop for elementary school children after classes. Initially, the children showed little interest, but over time, creative activities were introduced to cultivate their enthusiasm for reading.
As a community leader in Tokalimbo Village, Hasni believes in proactive change. ¡°It¡¯s better to light a candle than curse the darkness,¡± she said. Amid the challenges posed by digital distractions, she hopes the spirit of literacy will flourish not only in her village but across all of Loeha Raya, inspiring the creation of vibrant learning spaces in every community.
Sustained Commitment to Educational Development
PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s dedication to education extends far beyond book and stationery donations. The company has long been actively involved in ensuring that formal education within its operational areas meets national standards and supports the holistic development of students.
Since 2023, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has rolled out a series of impactful programs, including vocational training, university entrance preparation courses, and workshops on the Merdeka Curriculum¡ªIndonesia¡¯s progressive education framework. These initiatives aim to strengthen the competencies of educators from kindergarten through junior high school in Loeha Raya, equipping them to better nurture the next generation.
In addition to formal education, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ also supports environmental education. The company regularly hosts educational visits from local institutions such as the Bantilang Village English Course and SD 279 Rante Angin, offering students hands-on learning experiences in sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
Endra Kusuma, Director of External Relations at PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, underscored the company¡¯s focus on sustainability and its integral connection to education.
¡°Sustainability is at the heart of our operations,¡± Endra stated. ¡°Education plays a critical role in shaping the quality of local talent¡ªindividuals who may one day become part of our workforce. We are committed to empowering local communities by investing in their future, starting with education.¡±
PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ remains steadfast in its pledge to contribute positively to both the communities and the environment surrounding its operational areas. Through initiatives like these, the company continues to build a legacy of impact¡ªone book, one child, and one village at a time.
