Towuti¡¯s Collaborative Recovery: PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and Communities Strengthen Recovery Through Science-Based Data and Collective Action

Towuti, 7 September 2025 ¨C On the 15th day of response efforts following an oil pipeline leak incident in Towuti District, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½) reaffirmed its commitment to a recovery process that is transparent, sustainable, and participatory. The recovery strategy is being implemented through two main pillars: scientifically rigorous data integrity and collective community action in partnership with PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½.

As of day 15, a joint task force comprising the East Luwu Regency Government, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), village authorities, and PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has received and formally recorded 126 verified complaints through the Information & Complaint Command Post and a 24?hour public hotline.

The reported impacts include 42 rice fields, 28 plantations, 19 fish ponds, and 37 cases related to access to clean water and livestock. This dataset serves as the foundation for a science-based mapping of compensation and ecological recovery measures.

¡°The comprehensive database we have compiled does more than document losses. It functions as a critical tool for designing long-term solutions that are measurable, fair, accountable, and grounded in scientific evidence,¡± said Endra Kusuma, Head of External Relations, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk.

Beyond technical assessments, the recovery process has been strengthened by strong community involvement. Over the past five days, 60 local residents from Lioka and Baruga villages have worked alongside PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ in rotating teams, each consisting of 30 people, to remove residual oil contamination along the riverbanks.

Ali Bastian, a farmer from Molindowe Hamlet, shared his perspective: ¡°PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ did not come only to clean up; they invited us to be part of the effort. We feel respected because we are directly involved in restoring the land and water we depend on every day.¡±

Similar sentiments were expressed by Asrul Akhmad, a resident of Matompi Village: ¡°The data collection process has been very helpful. Our affected rice fields are officially recorded, giving us confidence that our concerns are not being overlooked. We are patient with the process because we see the seriousness of PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and the government in addressing this situation.¡±

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ emphasizes that this integrated approach¡ªcombining science, data, and community solidarity¡ªforms the foundation for a more resilient recovery. Looking ahead, the company¡¯s focus is on restoring the Towuti ecosystem while also reinforcing the social resilience of local communities.

¡°Our commitment is to ensure that this recovery is more than a short-term response to a crisis. It is an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, transparency, and the long-term sustainability of life in Towuti,¡±
Endra concluded.
