Maravilhas III Dam: March 2026 update

The Maravilhas III Dam, located in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, maintained adequate conservation status throughout March 2026.

To monitor the geotechnical performance of the structure, we rely on the support of an external firm, the Registered Engineer (EdR). The Geotechnical Performance Evaluation Report prepared by the EdR for March indicates that, based on data obtained through monitoring and visual inspections, the dam is performing within normal parameters. Furthermore, the geotechnical instruments are operating within expected parameters in accordance with the hydrological cycle, and the safety factors obtained in the stability analyses continue to meet the minimum requirements established under current legislation.

In March, preliminary activities were initiated for the resumption of construction on the second phase of the dam's embankment, including the raising of the contact drain on the abutments, the leveling of work areas and operational accesses, as well as the mobilization of additional equipment and personnel. Construction was halted in October 2025 and will resume in April, as planned.

In line with the reporting cycle to the National Mining Agency (ANM), the Stability Condition Declaration (DCE) for the Maravilhas III Dam was updated in March, remaining positive, with no alert or emergency levels for the structure. The dam remains monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the Geotechnical Monitoring Center (GMC).
