Strengthen Indonesia¡¯s Global Nickel Leadership, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia and Huayou Commits to Climate-Aligned Technology Pathways at COP30

Bel¨¦m, Brazil, 14 November 2025 ¡ª At the heart of the world¡¯s largest climate summit, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½) as part of Mining Industry Indonesia (MindID) delivered a compelling narrative of Indonesia¡¯s journey toward a low-carbon future, positioning the country not only as a major supplier of nickel but as a global leader in sustainable critical mineral development. Speaking at the Indonesia Pavilion during the COP30 talk show ¡°Emerging Technologies to Respond to Climate Change,¡± PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ showcased how technology, responsible mining practices, and strategic downstream partnerships, particularly with Huayou Indonesia are shaping a new chapter in the electric vehicle battery ecosystem.

The session brought together a prominent panel representing the full value chain of Indonesia¡¯s nickel industry. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry opened the dialogue through a recorded keynote delivered by Hanifah Dwi Nirwana, Acting Deputy for Waste, Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Substances Management, who emphasized Indonesia¡¯s commitment to strengthening environmental governance as the foundation of industrial transformation. She was joined by Amsor, Director of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste Management, who underlined how regulatory integrity, increased transparency, and alignment with international sustainability standards are essential for Indonesia¡¯s green industrial agenda.

From the industry side, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s Director and Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer, Budiawansyah, outlined the company¡¯s climate ambition with clarity and conviction. He highlighted that PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s operations in Sorowako are undergoing significant technological changes aimed at achieving a 33% reduction in absolute emissions by 2030, alongside a 50% reduction in carbon intensity for nickel products¡ªambitious targets made possible through innovations such as heat recovery systems, off-gas utilization, enhanced ore dewatering, and electrification of processing infrastructure. These initiatives not only reduce emissions but also unlock operational efficiencies projected to generate substantial annual energy savings and meaningful CO? reductions. For Budiawansyah, decarbonization is not a slogan but a mandate. ¡°At COP30, our message is very clear,¡± he said. ¡°Responsible growth and climate alignment are the backbone of our strategy. Through innovation and collaboration, including our strategic downstream partnership with Huayou, we are committed to delivering low-carbon nickel that meets the expectations of global stakeholders.¡±

This sentiment was echoed by Stevanus, Director of Public Affairs at Huayou Indonesia, whose presence underscored how Huayou Indonesia's technology innovations are not only enhance operational efficiency, but also significantly reduce carbon emissions.

¡°New innovation of technology are currently under deployment in our advanced hydrometallurgical processing, starting from waste heat recovery that could cover more than 70% of project electricity needs, self-flow ore slurry infrastructure, CO2 solidification, electrification and waste reutilization, we can reduce more than 2tCO2e/tNi carbon emission.¡± Stevanus shared.

He also noted that PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¨CHuayou partnership represents a shared mission to accelerate cleaner, more efficient battery material processing.¡°By combining Huayou¡¯s innovation in advanced hydrometallurgical processing, with PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s strong ESG foundations, we are helping position Indonesia as a global benchmark for low-carbon battery materials.¡±

The panel¡¯s narrative gained further depth with insights from Aladin Sianipar, Vice President of HSE at Harita Nickel, who spoke about the importance of circularity and waste repurposing in the broader decarbonization journey. Together, the speakers presented a powerful message: Indonesia¡¯s nickel industry is undergoing one of the most significant transformations in its history, propelled by collaboration across government, upstream miners, midstream processors, and downstream technology leaders.

At the COP30 Indonesian Pavillion, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ also used to reflect on its continuous ESG progress, revealing its latest Sustainalytics ESG Risk Rating of 23.7, the company¡¯s strongest performance to date and one that places it among the top performers in the global diversified metals and mining category. This achievement reinforces PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s credibility as a responsible supplier in a sector increasingly scrutinized for its environmental impact. The company emphasized that global trust is earned through consistency, through transparent reporting, strong governance, operational discipline, and long-term investments aligned with global climate expectations.

In Bel¨¦m, thousands of kilometers away from Sorowako, Bahodopi, Pomalaa, and Morowali; the very sites that power Indonesia¡¯s nickel leadership, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s presence at COP30 carried a clear message: Indonesia¡¯s critical minerals are shaping the future of global decarbonization, and the country intends to lead with both ambition and accountability. Through its partnerships, clean energy processing pathways, and unwavering commitment to ESG excellence, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is contributing to a transformed nickel ecosystem, one where innovation supports climate goals and where Indonesia stands not only as a resource provider, but as a strategic, responsible force in the global transition toward cleaner energy systems.

As the discussion concluded, the collective sentiment from the panel was unified and forward-looking. Indonesia¡¯s ascent in the global EV supply chain will be defined not just by reserves or production volume, but by the values it embeds in industrial development: sustainability, transparency, technological excellence, and strong collaboration. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and Huayou¡¯s partnership serves as a model for how industry players can work together to deliver meaningful, climate-positive impact, strengthening Indonesia¡¯s position on the world stage at a time when responsible critical mineral supply has never been more vital.
