From Matano to Parumpanai: Sustainable Initiatives from Eastern Indonesia Earn National Recognition at ICA & ISDA 2025

Jakarta, December 18, 2025 ¡ª Community-driven sustainable development, rooted in local potential and powered by multi-stakeholder collaboration, has once again received national acclaim. At the Indonesian CSR Awards (ICA) 2025 and Indonesian SDGs Awards (ISDA) 2025, organized by the Corporate Forum for CSR Development (CFCD), two flagship programs from PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia¡¯s operational area in East Luwu, South Sulawesi, were honored as national best practices.

The awards recognized two standout initiatives¡ªMatano Iniaku and Closed-Loop Livestock System: Cattle Farming¡ªfor delivering tangible benefits to communities, the environment, and the local economy, while aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

¡°Matano Iniaku¡± ¡ª Connecting Conservation, Ecotourism, and Sustainable Livelihoods
The ICA 2025 award was presented to Matano Iniaku, an ecotourism and agroforestry-based development program in Matano Village, Nuha District, East Luwu.

Designed to address environmental degradation and limited livelihood opportunities, the program applies nature-based solutions focused on watershed rehabilitation, polyculture agroforestry, and strengthening LaaWaa River Park as a conservation-driven ecotourism destination.

Through agroforestry training, organic fertilizer management, local institutional development, and ecotourism management, the initiative encourages communities to transition from monoculture practices to more diverse, adaptive, and sustainable systems¡ªrestoring ecosystems while creating alternative income streams.

¡°Closed-Loop Livestock System¡± ¡ª Integrated Cattle Farming for Inclusive Economic Growth
Meanwhile, the ISDA 2025 award went to the Closed-Loop Livestock System program in Parumpanai and Kawata Villages, contributing directly to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

This integrated cattle farming model combines farmer capacity building, infrastructure provision, feed and animal health management, and the strengthening of village economic institutions. The approach enables small-scale farmers to boost productivity and efficiency sustainably.

Beyond creating new jobs, the program fosters local economic governance through BUMDesMa (Village-Owned Enterprise), ensuring economic benefits circulate and grow within the community.

Collaboration as the Foundation of Success
Both programs thrive on strong collaboration among communities, local government, academia, and industry players. Stakeholders¡ªfrom East Luwu Regency officials and village leaders to Hasanuddin University and community groups¡ªhave been actively involved from planning to implementation and evaluation.

This collaborative approach ensures each initiative is socially and ecologically relevant, while building robust institutional foundations for long-term sustainability.
