Collaborative Solidarity Drives Recovery Efforts Following Towuti Pipeline Incident

Towuti, September 2, 2025 ¡ª Recovery efforts following the oil pipeline leak in Towuti District, which occurred on August 23, 2025, have gained significant momentum thanks to the active involvement of local communities working in synergy with PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Indonesia Tbk (PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½).

By Day 11, a total of 225 residents from six affected villages had joined cleanup operations along rivers, drainage systems, and agricultural lands: 75 from Lioka, 30 from Wawondula, 30 from Langkea Raya, 30 from Matompi, 30 from Baruga, and 30 from Timampu. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has prioritized the safety of all participants by providing personal protective equipment (PPE) that meets the company¡¯s safety standards, along with establishing on-site health posts.

In Lioka Village, Yusperlin Hanteka, Head of Molindowe Hamlet, reported visible improvements in water flow conditions.

¡°The community has responded positively to the cleanup efforts and is committed to seeing it through. We trust PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s dedication to environmental stewardship and comprehensive recovery,¡± he said.

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ also responded to community reports regarding livestock health. In Matompi Village, a resident named Suriman reported that his cow appeared weak after drinking from the river. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½¡¯s field team provided immediate assistance, including health checks and securing the animal to prevent further exposure to affected areas.

Endra Kusuma, Head of External Relations at PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, emphasized the importance of collaboration:

¡°We deeply appreciate the extraordinary commitment shown by the community and local government. PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is dedicated to a recovery process grounded in transparency, accountability, and a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and public safety.¡±

PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ continues to operate a Grievance & Information Post at the Towuti Subdistrict Office and a 24-hour hotline to receive, verify, and respond to community concerns. This grievance mechanism is a key instrument in ensuring that recovery efforts are inclusive, fair, and effectively targeted.

Through close collaboration with local communities and government authorities, PT ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ remains optimistic that the recovery process will be swift and effective¡ªwhile also strengthening Towuti¡¯s resilience in facing future challenges.
